John Wayne Bobbitt & Niagara Falls

I once was asked to photograph the infamous John Wayne Bobbitt up in Niagara Falls on St Patricks Day. I didn’t just want to do a generic headshot of John at the hotel, where writer Annette Witheridge and I met him for the interview. I wanted to get something a little different, as he had his hockey boots on and was wearing a Time Bandit jacket.. So I decided the waterfalls would make a nice backdrop and put him where he now lived. It was freezing, the wind was howling. It was painful degrees Fahrenheit. Annette was hanging onto the lighting equipment to stop it from being blown down the falls. We managed to get a few frames that worked before our eyes iced over and the lighting died. We then retreated back to the hotel before heading to a St Patrick’s Day Parade for a pint. The last I saw of John was him running into a brick wall…definitely a Time Bandit……..
